Spoiler Alert。 Short stories can be tremendous。 To be succinct but impactful is a gift。 This tale’s brevity and lack of exploration work against it。 Also any tension is immediately removed near the end when we learn the story’s monster is known to others。 I would loved to have had the inmates battle the scary being as a more engaging romp。

Maybe I was expecting too much from a short story but the ending left me feeling very unresolved。 Where was the closure? Where was the horror? Where was the punch?

Short。 Scary。 Perfect

Just when I was complaining my last book wasn’t scary enough, Grady Hendrix freaks me out with 29 pages enough to poop my pants while watching Sunday morning news!

Efficient and nasty, in the best way。 The one thing that lowers my rating is I felt it almost explained (or maybe just showed) too much。 The scariest thing about the monster under the bed is the uncertainty and dread, not watching someone actually get killed by it。

🏆Part of the Creature Feature Amazon Original Stories Collection for Prime members and Kindle Unlimited 🏆My first Grady Hendrix read! I’m super impressed and captivated。 He did not disappoint! This may only be a short story, but it was super creepy and a perfect sample of Grady Hendrix’s work。 Makes you really think…。I learned that just because we are adults doesn’t mean that the Boogeyman doesn’t still exist for us。 Be it under our beds or within our very own minds。 Maybe not all delusions are indeed just delusions? Regardless, the consequences are more severe than when we were children…。 On the flip, is it really the Boogeyman’s fault or does he have a bad rep due to getting blamed for something he didn’t even really do!? “They live in our closets and under our beds, and after dark they come out when we break the rules。 We’re serving time for the boogeymen’s crimes。”We shall see just what sort of impact this story has fully left upon me once nightfall emerges。 Pretty soon, I’m certain I’ll need a security escort in the middle of the night for bathroom visits as my imaginative mind runneth over with imprints of all sorts of horrifying things I’ve read and seen over the years!! Lastly, I’ll say I love you night light – you keep me safe。 If I could hug you, I would。 Long live my night light! I certainly hope I never hear such sounds coming from under my bed! *Cringe* 。。。more

I am really enjoying the creature feature collection。 Marcus’s dad myrdered his mother when he was six years old。 But he told him the boogeyman did it, but Marcus would be safe if he never stepped out of bed with the lights off。 25 years later he brings a girl home…she stepped out of bed when the lights were off…and the boogeyman got her

Creepy and a bit yucky too, I liked the narrative style and the idea but I felt it was incomplete in some way, too incomplete even for a short story。

Kylie

Actual rating 3。5I liked this one more than the other short story I read from this collection。 I’ve read from Grady before so his writing is very easy to follow and understand。

This was one of my two favorites of Amazon’s Creature Feature collection。 After being disappointed by Hendrix’s last couple of books, this was such a pleasant surprise。 Hendrix’s take on the proverbial monster who lives under the bed was great。 This story has some incredibly interesting ideas in it and I would love to see them expanded upon either with a full length novel or in film。

Alice

Interesting concept, some of the prose felt weird。 Not interested in a re-read, almost DNF。

3。5 — I enjoyed devouring this dark little short story that’s a modern day twist on the classic boogeyman tale。 A reminder of why we asked our parents to check under the bed before being tucked in at night

Great! It's a great fast paced, quick read that leaves you thinking did he do it or was it actually the monster under the bed? Great! It's a great fast paced, quick read that leaves you thinking did he do it or was it actually the monster under the bed? 。。。more

A half finished short storyAn interesting premise but reading it left me puzzled。 It reads like a half fleshed out idea。 A short story at best。

This was a fun story by Grady Hendrix concerning a “disturbance” under the bed, I enjoyed where this short tale went, scary and entertaining!

Deidra Ducharme

One of my biggest fears growing up was something being under my bed。 This completely creeped me out! I will be keeping the lights on for now on。

Heather Oakes

Creepy as heck and something we have all been fearful of at some point

Joanne

Not all allegories are allegories!

Okay I REALLY liked this short story。I think I'm slowly discovering I'm a short horror girly。 LolBut this was a really fun play on the boogeyman type story, I honestly would've liked to see it fleshed out more but the short story format worked for it too! Loved it!Mr。 Hendrix has become one of my favorite authors。 All of his books are good, scary and refreshing, his writing is really really good。 Ankle snatcher was a quick read has all of the elements of a good horror story。

4。5* audiobookGreat short story。 That something under the bed, closet, dark room, etc is real! Feels like an homage to Stephen King's The Bogeyman。 4。5* audiobookGreat short story。 That something under the bed, closet, dark room, etc is real! Ankle SnatcherThis is the second story in Amazon’s collection called Creature Feature。 Yep, you don’t want your feet to touch the ground when your bedroom is dark, right? What’s under the bed?
